At the writing of this post, the world is experiencing the Corona Pandemic that has affected everyone on the planet. We are all under some sort of order or “suggestion” to stay at home. Many of us are even unable to visit our horses as our barns and stables may be closed. In order to keep us in the game and learning,
I’ve put together this list of free You Tube videos on a variety of equine related subjects. I hope this list is helpful to you.
Warwick Schiller Training Videos
I am a huge Warwick Schiller fan. He offers hours of free videos on his You Tube channel. The links below are the first episodes in each of 3 seasons on The Principles of Training. These three seasons are some of his most recent work recorded within the last year. Each season contains several videos on a variety of training subjects. Each season alone will take up several hours of your time.

The Madden Method
The Madden Method is by John and Beezie Madden and offers some great information in several videos. The first video I chose is on horse confirmation. Although the Madden’s specialize in jumpers, I feel this information is applicable across all disciplines. The second video was shot recently and shows Beezie giving an actual riding lesson. Those of you jumper fans will love this and maybe be able to apply some of her teaching to your own riding.

The Certified Horsemanship Association
The Certified Horsemanship Association offers several videos. Some of them I like more than others. The one’s below are two of my more favorites.
Reading Horse Behavior by Dale Rubin
How to Take and Read a Horse’s Vital Signs by Teddy Frank
Saddle Fit
I’ve been challenged by saddle fit on a few of the horses I’ve owned over the years. The video’s below offer some great information on picking and fitting a saddle to your horse:

How to Tell If Your English Saddle Fits
Western Saddle Fit, A 3 part Series by Larry Trocha
How to Choose a Western Saddle that Fits You, Your Horse and Your Style of Riding – Part 1
It’s Reining Fun
2018 AQHA Senior Reining Finals
I love this reining run for a number of reasons. I shared this video with my subscribers a couple months ago. Things to notice as you watch the video:
1. Notice the connection the rider has with this horse and the language he uses to describe her. Look at his face as he talks about his horse.
2. After the horse completes one of the spins required, she displays a quirky behavior. Notice how this does not upset the rider. He has accepted it has part of her and knows that she has other great qualities that will make up for this if it is negatively viewed by the judge.
3. A few minutes into the run, the bridle breaks. Yikes! In order to keep the horse from stepping on the bridle, the rider two handed the reins and this will disqualify him from the competition. Notice that the rider keeps on competing. He doesn’t give up!
4. Having been around reining horses and trainers, I’d be willing to bet that this little mare has never been ridden bridleless in her life. Watch how she steps up her game!
5. Notice the rider’s comments as the interviewer asks him about the reaction from the crowd. Notice how he is focused on the present moment and not thinking about the outcome of the run or the environment surrounding him.
6. Notice the trust and respect between the rider and the horse, and vice versa. It is something to be admired.
A Dancing Horse
There’s something about this Dressage Test by Cathrine Dufour that is strangely emotional. The connection between she and her horse just makes you feel good. Enjoy!

Inside the Judges Stand
If you ever wondered how the sport of cutting is judged, this 7 part series by Bronc Willoughby gives the viewer an inside look as he judges a seven horse cutting.

I hope you enjoyed watching these videos and that they are helping you adjust to being at home. Someone once said that the mind doesn’t know the difference between something vividly imagined or the real thing. I hope these videos keep your mind focused on learning and practicing during this time. If you have others that you wish to share, please, let us know in the comments!
